What a lazy and fun day. It didn't start great because our whole camp was woken up around 4am by a damn whippoorwill... but once we got hiking we cruised the 4ish miles to High Point State Park where our crew met at the observation tower to enjoy the random obelisk.
We hung out there for a while before hiking down to the lake where we spent most of the early afternoon. Truffles, Hangman, Sticks, and I swam in the lake before getting lunch at the concession stand. Truffles and I swam a little more before hiking out.
He and I hiked all afternoon together and had so much fun talking about all kinds of random things. Trail "dating" is weird because we spend so much time together and getting to know one another feels so accelerated.
Our crew met up at the Secret Shelter where we met trail celebrity Jake the Donkey. We took lots of pictures and hung out with Jake for a while before hitting some beautiful boardwalks and then road walking into town.
We set up our tents at the free camping in a park before a brief resupply at the general store and dinner at the pizza place. We all hung out and chatted while Truffles gave Gooey a hose shower and Botany, Ancho Man, Tangled, and Manners arrived!
