Day 108, July 8, 2021 (12 miles)

Warwick Drive-In - Wildcat Shelter

Today felt like a lot even though we didn't do a big mile day. We attempted to sleep in at the drive-in but were still up by 7. Sticks, Slobber, and I resupplied before Sticks and I got a ride from yesterday's trail angel to the post office so that I could pick up my contacts. We had a hard time getting a ride back to the theater (hitching is illegal in NY) so we eventually hopped on a city bus.

Morale was low with our entire crew because of the impending rain, and again we had a hard time getting a ride to the trailhead. We hopped on another city bus and were hiking by noon.

Even being in a funk can be cleared by just returning to the everyday trail grind. Truffles and I hiked together pretty much the entire day and chatted - he is easily the highlight of my day every day out here. It showered on and off call day but thankfully didn't start dumping until we were at camp.

We crossed into NY officially today! Hard to believe NJ is already done; it was short, sweet, and lovely.

NJ/NY border! Magic, Truffles, Sticks, Slobber, Gooey, and Hangman

We all just cruised along until we hit an ice cream shop just off trail; of course, we had to detour and eat an insane amount of ice cream. We hung out goofing around for a while before cranking out the remaining miles to the shelter. Thankfully I got set up before the rain and ate dinner with everyone in the shelter. Looking forward to falling asleep to rain, not waking up in it.
