Day 117: July 17, 2021 (19 miles)

Falls Village - Race Trail Campsite

Today was a DAY! We were up and out around 7sih and started by checking out the giant waterfall in Falls Village - it was gushing like Niagra Falls because of all the rain, it was honestly pretty sweet.

We had 5 big climbs ahead of us for the day and I was not in the best mood. I felt really sluggish and weak going up the first hill, and that just really brought me down... I was around the rest of the group but tried to get past everyone so I could hike alone. We all stopped at the Giant's Thumb (Truffles climbed on top) and then I set off by myself.

I hit the 1500 mile marker and normally that would be a huge deal, but I was feeling negative and focused o the fact that I have 693 more miles to go.

Our crew at the 1500 mile marker. I hiked ahead so they photoshopped me into the picture

I stopped to let my friends catch up and we climbed yet another hill together. I perked up after lunch and was feeling good after climbing Bear Mountain with Sticks and Truffles. Creature and Dumb Horse surprised me by catching up to us at the summit and we had a great reunion! Truffles and I hiked with them down the mountain and we caught up the whole time.

It came the worst thunderstorm I've been stuck in; basically a flash flood with lots of thunder and lightning. The trail became a river and we were just splashing through puddles. Going across Race Mountain in MA during the lightning was terrifying because of the exposed ridgeline, but we survived.

We caught up to the rest of the crew and decided to call it early and set up camp in the rain. Ended up being a good day.
