South Wilcox Shelter - Upper Goose Pond Cabin
Today was a really good day I slept great (with the help of some TPM) and we "slept in" until around 6am. I don't usually sleep great in shelters, but this one was really nice and I had a bunk to myself. We took our time leaving and were on trail by 8am.
The first few miles flew by and I was able to keep up with Truffles and Hangman. We took a break after 6ish miles and waited for Sticks and Slobber to catch up. The trail had been rerouted because of all the rain and we decided to do a brief road walk to get to the detour.
Along the way was the "AT Trail Stand" with drinks, candy, and ice pops so we sat at the picnic table to have lunch and ended up chilling hard for almost 2 hours... We met our first SoBos and they were not our favorites; they acted like they were superior because they've already done the really hard sections even though we've hiked double what they have... *eye roll*
We decided to continue along the road, but first, we stopped at a park for a bathroom break and so Truffles and I could play on the swings. He pushed me on the tire swing and it was the highlight of my day. He and I did the whole road walk together and talked a lot about how much we like each other and a little about "us" after trail. No conclusions were made.
Our group got some trail magic Cokes before hiking the last 3 trail miles to the shelter. Once we were all set up we went down to the pond/lake to swim before dinner. Pimento arrived and is finally caught back up with us - now there's 7 in our group.
After dinner, I caught up briefly with Creature and Dumb Horse. Truffles and I took a canoe out before bed and he finally kissed me! It was beautiful and romantic on the island.
