Day 130: July 30, 2021 (5 miles)

Govern Clement Shelter - Killington, VT

Woke up nice and snuggly with Truffles this morning. I love the Duplex. Everyone got ready in the shelter before embarking on the "last warmup before the Whites" in the rain. Sticks and I hiked together and the climb wasn't too bad aside from some super cold rain. I am really not looking forward to it getting cold again.

The last 0.2 miles were a vertical rock scramble that left me worried to lean back too far... of course, our view was socked in and it was super rainy/windy, but it still felt good to say we conquered Killington.

Pimento climbing to the top of Killington peak in VT

We made our way down to the gondola where Truffles and Slobber were waiting for us to ride down the mountain. I really want to come back to VT to ski. Again very bummed the weather wasn't better, the gondola would have been so cool!

Truffles acting big and strong after a hard climb

Our whole crew road walked into town where we stopped for lunch and made our way to the post office. I got my cold weather gear (thanks mom and dad) and we ran into Creature and Dumb Horse before catching a bus to Rutland to resupply.

A very covid conscious post office

We loitered at Walmart for a long time before walking to Chipotle for dinner. We caught the bus back to Killington where we were able to camp for free outside of an Inn.

Again I opted to sleep with Truffles, it was freezing and the thought of snuggling up next to him was very appealing. I also love waking up next to him and his sleeping grin being the first thing I see in the morning.
