Pine Ellis Lodge - Sabbath Day Shelter
Today was a good day! We got up early for complimentary coffee and muffins at the hostel before getting breakfast sandwiches at the market. Our shuttle had us back on trail by 8am and we hung out by the trailhead for a while enjoying a trail magic cooler.
While we were procrastinating hiking, the entire Dirty Bubble rolled through; I hadn’t seen Road Soda since VA! It was really good to catch up with them before climbing a mountain.
Today was my preferred day of hiking - the big climb was in the morning and the rest of the day was super chill. When I know there’s a big hill in the afternoon, I spend all day dreading it. I hoofed it up the hill and was quickly passed by the boys, but I eventually made it to the top and was reunited with the crew. The rest of the morning was uneventful, we just hiked until we got to a good spot for lunch.
At the shelter we made reservations to stay at a hostel in Stratton, so that will motivate us through the next few days of rain. The afternoon was beautiful and we got some killer views before a long descent. I hiked with Truffles and Hangman and we chatted between podcasts.
Gooey was the MVP and found a blue blaze to flatten out the afternoon. We walked on an old logging/snowmobile road all the way to the shelter. We got some of the best trail magic when we arrived. Some locals paddled up in a boat on the pond with coolers full of beer and sat around to talk and drink with us. They were great company! Thankful for perfect days like today on trail.
