Day 158: August 27, 2021 (15 miles)

East Curry Pond - Pleasant Pond Shelter

Today may be one of my favorite days on trail! Creature, Dumb Horse, and Party Dave and I woke up early to watch the sunrise over the pond - it was beautiful! We all set off together but I had the goal of catching up with the boys so I hiked hard, fast, and without any breaks.

Thankfully the terrain was super easy and I was able to haul and caught them just after the “ferry” (aka canoe) over the river. Truffles and I both missed each other the previous night and thankfully he wasn’t upset I hadn’t caught them the night before.

We all decided to go into town for lunch and got a ride to the Sterling Inn for a snack resupply and pints of ice cream. I am very worried about getting fat after trail because when else am I going to be able to eat an entire container of Ben and Jerry’s with no remorse?

Creature, Dumb Horse, and Party Dave all showed up and we got a ride to Northwoods Brewery - famous for it’s FREE giant hot tub and pool for hikers. We ate, drank, and Odie showed up to hang out. We went back and forth between the pool and the hot tub for hours we got a super intense game of volleyball going in the pool and it was SO FUN. I couldn’t stop smiling.

We hung out for a while before deciding to head back to trail. We found a blue blaze road and only had to walk 5 easy miles to a shelter near a gorgeous clear pond. We hung out at the shelter for a while and befriended Down Over, an ultra runner who was going for an FKT but got injured in NC. We all chatted around the fire before going to bed. Such a great day!
