Day 166: September 4, 2021 (16 miles)

Nahmakanta Shelter - Rainbow Dam

Today was an absolutely magical day! It was cold when we woke up, but lately, we've been sleeping in and getting a slow start to the day. We had a fire this morning and took our time drinking coffee and enjoying the morning - it was lovely.

The terrain today was again super flat and cruisey; I actually enjoyed hiking today for the first time in forever! It felt like a nice leisurely walk in the woods instead of a gruling thru hike. The weather could not have been more beautiful, today really was the perfect day for hiking.

Lots of lakes/ponds in the 100 Mile Wilderness

We didn't get moving until around 10am and consistently did 3mph, so we stopped for lunch before climbing a small "mountain". Lunch was fun because we sang John Denver songs and talked about other people who have already summitted. We climbed Nesuntabunt Mountain and got AMAZING views of Katahdin and a lake. The mountain looks huge and very intimidating, but we have climbed bigger mountains and it's the last one so who cares.

Stunning views with Mama K in the background!

The rest of the day was uneventful; it's flat and beautiful and lovely. Our campsite for the night is also beautiful and stunning, it's on a pond with Katahdin looming in the background. We are here with Too Early and Cornbread. Our plan in the morning is to wake up early, watch the sunrise from our tents over Mama K, then hike to Abol Bridge. The end is SO CLOSE, it's hard to believe!
