Deer Park Shelter - Hot Springs, NC
Today was a short and sweet nero. We woke up expecting rain and thankfully made it out of camp and all the way to Hot Springs without a drop. The early morning hike was cool and crisp, I enjoyed hiking alone into town. We reconvened at the Smoky Mountain Diner, which was filled with nothing but hikers, and ate our weight in breakfast food.
Our tramily wondered around town for a bit before checking into our 2 rooms at Spring Brook Cottages. We took our time taking showers and doing laundry. Tin Man, Dumb Horse, and Sheppard taught me how to play Euchre and we spent most of the afternoon playing cards.
Apparently, CNN was in town doing trail magic at a hostel to film for a documentary, so we headed there with the promise of free food and stardom. I ate way too many hot dogs and visited with the Dirty Bubble.
I’m realizing that I don’t like the big crowds and am worried about making new friends when our tramily splits up. I like being around people I know and am comfortable with, but I know I’ll grow in making new friends when I have to. The entire Dirty Bubble came back to the cottage for beer and cards, and we drank way too much. Once we kicked everyone out we ate cake and watched TV as a tramily. Town is a vortex.
