Stealth Campsite - Jerry Cabin Shelter
Short day in the cold rain - almost felt nearly as hard as a long day. Bug Bite, Wilson, and I woke up still dry (thankfully) and tried to break down camp ASAP. The day started with a climb but thankfully it was gradual and a decent start to the day. About an hour or so in it finally started raining, but it was very light and cold.
We just cranked out miles to try and get to the shelter ASAP in order to try secure a spot in the shelter so that we wouldn’t have to set up wet tents. The trail would have been beautiful if the weather was nice, but we had no views and were mostly wind blown. We traversed an exposed ridge line (there was a bad weather bypass, but it’s “for yuppies” per the sign) and I’m sure the view would have been spectacular on a nice day. The ridge was kind of scary just because it was so windy, but thankfully we didn’t get blown over or slipped on the rocks. The last couple miles my moral was low, but we made it to the shelter by noon.
The shelter was already full, but we were both able to get a spot and the rest of our tramily. I can’t express how good it felt to get on my dry clothes! Very thankful to be warm and dry tonight.
