Day 37: April 27, 2021 (6.2 miles)

No Business Shelter - Uncle Johnny’s Hostel (Erwin, TN)

Today was thankfully short and sweet after yesterday. It was so nice waking up knowing we didn’t have many miles into town so we could take our time leaving camp. I didn’t sleep much last night thanks to my sleeping pad (spoiler alert: there IS a hole!) but Bug Bite and I cranked out the first couple miles really quickly.

Peaceful trail on the descent into Erwin, TN

After a mutual poop break I put on a podcast and wanted to hike alone so I sailed on by her. The descent into Erwin was scenic and fun, walking along the trail where I’ve hiking with my parents is super special to me.

Looking down on the Nolichucky River

Uncle Johnny’s is right off the AT and we saw lots of our friends. We showered and did laundry (my 1st time in loaner clothes) and took the hostel bikes for a cruise around town. We got lunch at this delicious drive-in place and did makeshift camp chores before catching the shuttle to Walmart.

Uncle Johnny's has bikes for hikers to pedal around town. Party Dave, Dumb Horse, Magic, Bug Bite, and Creature

We feasted on Mexican food and giant frozen mango margaritas before resupply and of course I spent way too much at Walmart. Before bed we soaked our feet in the river. Hard climb tomorrow, but I am thankful for a bed tonight!

Such good food and sweet service at the Dari Ace in Erwin, TN!
