Roan High Knob Shelter - The Station at 19E
Today has probably been one of my favorite days on trail thus far. I was so thankful to be sleeping in the shelter because it came an awful storm with 50mph gusts - waking up dry was a blessing. It was still gross out when I got up so I ran out of camp in my PJs to make it down to Carvers Gap to use the pit toilet and regroup.
It was crazy foggy and windy, going over Round Bald and Jane Bald was lame because it was totally socked in. It started clearing up by the time I got to the Stan Murry Shelter for a snack and to shed layers. By the time Creature and I got to the Humps, it was clear but still super windy! We got blown around a lot and didn’t enjoy the views on top because it was so blustery.
At Doll Flats, we caught up with Party Dave and Dumb Horse and we had a photoshoot by the leaving NC sign. We descended with Tooter and Semi Circle before getting a shuttle to 19E.
Honestly, the Station was one of the funniest nights of my life! Everyone was there and thanks to virtual trail magic I didn’t have to pay or anything (drinks, dinner, bunk, nada!) I took a great shower, put on some stylish loaner clothes, did laundry, and felt very productive.
Chris, Grace, and Maddie drove in to hang out and sing karaoke, they brought me a TON of food. Out rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody brought the house down. Karaoke was a blast and I slept great. Such a full and amazing day!
