Day 58: May 18, 2021 (10.7 miles)

Woods Hole Hostel - Angel’s Rest Hostel

It was so hard to leave Woods Hole this morning! I slept great and got to wake up and drink coffee on a beautiful porch with rocking chairs overlooking the goat pasture and mountains. Breakfast was almost as yummy as dinner, I wanted to lick the apple butter off my plate!

We all took our time and were back on trail reluctantly by 10am. The boys shot ahead and Creature and I took our time - we were feeling sluggish after such a big meal. We took lots of breaks and chatted a majority of the day; Erika is so cool and I love hearing more about her and Drew’s adventures! Since we were on the ridge all day we had some great views, I was thankful for clear weather.

The descent into Pearisburg felt like it took forever; our plan was to get into town, do a quick resupply, grab a late lunch, then hike out 8 more miles to the next shelter. We didn’t roll into town until 3ish (after failed hitch attempts and a mile of road walking), and Creature and I walked through the Dairy Queen drive through as soon as we got into town.

We caught up with the gang, resupplies at Food Lion, and went straight to the Mexican restaurant. By this point, it was around 5pm, and after 2 fruity frozen margs I did NOT want to night hike. Thankfully DQ and Forward showed up and convinced me to stay at a hostel with them. DQ and I stayed up until midnight drinking beers and talking, thankfully our shuttle isn’t until 10am tomorrow. An unexpected end to the day.
