Day 72: June 1, 2021 (14 miles)

Ledges Campsite - Super 8 Motel, Waynesboro, VA

Today ended up being a weird but good day. I slept so good and really didn't want to get up, but I was the 1st one out and about. I left camp around 7am and wanted to get down and up the big climb as quickly as possible. The descent was uneventful, once I got down the mountain there was some soda at the bridge before starting to climb 3 Ridges.

A cold soda is a wonderful site!

I ran into Gooey and Pegasus at the blue blaze trailhead for the Mau-Har trail and they informed me that the blue blaze was less elevation gain AND cut off 5 miles... it was an easy choice! The blue blaze ended up being beautiful! There were tons of waterfalls and swimming holes, I really enjoyed hiking along the creek even though it was steep and rocky. I absolutely regret nothing about the blue blaze!

Beautiful water feature on the Mau-Har trail, a blue from from the AT

We stopped for lunch and the boys informed me that we could hop on the parkway at Reid Gap and road walk to Hump Rock then do 3 more AT miles to the shelter before Waynesboro, meaning it'd only be 6 miles to town the next day. I was so down, and very excited when we got a hitch to take us to Hump Rock. The only problem was that the driver passed Hump Rock and basically drove us all the way to town.

Gooey, Magic, and Pegasus "kidnapped" on a hitch that "accidentally" took us into town

We said fuck it and went into town a day early! We stayed with Sticks at the Super 8 and got Waffle House so life is grand.
