Waynesboro, VA - Blackrock Hut
I am so glad I didn't get vortexed in Waynesboro! For some reason leaving town today felt the easiest it has yet. I slept great and ate breakfast with Truffles (who I am convinced is in love with me) before Gooey, Pegasus, and I got a shuttle to Rockfish Gap at 9am. When I was leaving, Truffles told me I "deserve to be happy" and whenever I feel down on trail to give him a call. It was really sweet.
When we got to Rockfish Gap, ALDAH was doing trail magic so I got more food before entering the Shennies! I wasn't sure how far I'd make it because we didn't start hiking until 10am, but my goal was the 20ish mile shelter.
I hiked alone all morning over the super easy terrain and felt like I was making really good time. I unexpectedly ran into Scout Master (who I've dubbed my trail dad) and Cajan and we decided to push to a Skyline Drive overlook for lunch. We had a great time chatting over lunch and some section hikers even gave us Mountain Houses for trail magic!
The rest of the afternoon was pretty uneventful no big climbs (thankfully), but it did absolutely pour for a bit and I got drenched. It's been dry lately and I hit a water cash which was nice.
At the shelter, I ate dinner with BC Botany, Mud Duck, and Hollywood. I'm exhausted, hoping for another 20 tomorrow.
